Wine Civic Center (PFC)
The Final Project of my academic career is a complex of buildings, 8.600 sq ft situated on an island with a steep slope, with a landscape of growing vines and a horizon with sea views.
It is comprised of three blocks, each adapted to the staggered ground and fulfilling a different function, linked by a series of paths surrounding exhibition areas, contemporary art and endemic vegetation.
- The warehouse (3700 sq ft) developed for the public viewing of the wine making process, without interfering with the daily operational process.
- The Museum (1300 sq ft) that also includes an exhibition area and another area for educational use and events.
- The Hotel-Restaurant-Spa (3800 sq ft) including a private area consisting of 8 rooms, swimming pool and another public area with a restaurant and spa.
The buildings are structured and constructed in such a way as to resemble the stones stranded in the grooves of the ravines, which are characteristic of the area. The concrete beams and columns remain the same edge section as ribs and forging are built of concrete slab. The facade is a ventilated stone surround with continuous cover, being faithful to the appearance of stone.
Contest 37 Multi-Family Housing (Madrid)
This project was a contest to design 37 multi-family housing units which conformed to the town planning to tip the isolated block and which area built is area by 1400 m2 over a plot area by 43000 sq ft. Finally it has been result by two longitudinal open blocks into an interior space to the orientation of each facade and besides researching the orientation south.
In the open courtyard, which includes leisure spaces, such as, paddle, gym, swimming pool and green area, the land has a steep slope which morphs into three platforms, allowing a half buried garage and attractive green areas.
The blocks contain 4-3 and 2 bedrooms houses (1900, 1500 and 100 sq ft respectively) from upper-middle class design which incorporate adequate airflow, a south facing terrace and a good view of a large courtyard. One the requirements of the design was a main bedroom with a dressing room-bathroom and, on the another hand, in the corridor a shared sink and shower, to make the most of square meters available.
The materials chosen for the facade are again white stone slabs, ventilated, to provide a better energy saving in both the summer and winter seasons. The deck of the stair boxes has a suitable shape which incorporates solar panels with the right orientation, reaching a complementary integration with the design of the building.
Center Sport in Pfanffenholf (PFM)
First of all, the project is designed structurally to provide a new concept, with the condition of maintaining the same distribution of space.
Building description
This building consists of two blocks:
- One cubic shaped high-rise contains a large room where sports are practiced, and a smaller room both been surrounded by galleries that also act as access areas
- Another block is a longitudinal shape attached to the front and low rise that contains the infrastructures.
Structure
The original sports center was a concrete building which has been redesigned by us in steel instead. The justification was that the design is within a mesh of 10.8 ft, which is suitable for a modulated construction and therefore a dry fast execution of Project.
The forging, 10.8 ft span, allow us to decide with collaborating sheet metal which its underpinnings is not necessary for its completion.
The deck of the huge room comprising a span of 93.60 ft, it was decided a steel truss whose ends are cantilevered, getting a lower and therefore smaller edge that if a steel truss mounted on two supports. In this way also the facade is free of columns, in order to create a clean and neat view without obstacles. The building is partially buried so that efforts from the wind are lower and on the other hand they will be absorbed by the auxiliary structure supporting the facade.
Generally the mostly cover of the building, must suffer light weight, only about maintenance and snow that is quite low, so it works out well with a sandwich board bearing, metallic surface on both sides.
Finally, for the purpose of speed and convenience, the steel columns and beam joints, are built bolted joints.
